No: 197, 2 October 2025, Regarding the Renewal of the Decision by the USA to Lift the Arms Embargo on the Greek Cypriot Administration

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 02.10.2025

It has been announced that the USA's decision, first taken in September 2020, to lift the arms embargo against the Greek Cypriot Administration has been extended for yet another year as of 1 October 2025. We share the views expressed in the statement of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on this issue.

There is no common ground between the two sides on the Island as regards the settlement of the Cyprus issue, and a process is ongoing under the auspices of the UN Secretary-General with the aim of developing a culture of cooperation to overcome the lack of trust between the sides.

We once again remind all parties of the need to refrain from any steps contrary to the spirit of the ongoing UN-led cooperation process and the efforts to establish trust between the two sides on the Island.

Türkiye, as a Guarantor and motherland, will continue its efforts towards a two-state settlement of the Cyprus issue on the basis of the sovereign equality and equal international status of the Turkish Cypriots.
