No: 150, 28 May 2018, Press Release Regarding the 25th anniversary of Solingen Attack

Republic Of Türkiye Ministry Of Foreign Affairs 28.05.2018

We commemorate with respect our five citizens who lost their lives as a result of the arson attack carried out by a group of racists in Solingen, Germany on 29 May 1993, on the 25th anniversary of this tragic attack. We wish God’s mercy upon them.

We hope that these kinds of tragedies will not happen again.

However, we observe with concern that racism, xenophobia and Islamophobia are on the rise although a quarter of a century has passed since the Solingen tragedy.

On this occasion, we would like to emphasize once again that effective measures against racism, discrimination and Islamophobia, which are the common problems of humanity, should be taken and particularly politicians and media should use a prudent language.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs, H.E. Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu, will visit Dusseldorf and Solingen on 29 May 2018 to attend the commemoration ceremonies.

During his visit, Foreign Minister Çavuşoğlu is also expected to meet with Mr. Heiko Maas, Federal Minister for Foreign Affairs and Mr. Armin Laschet, Minister President of North Rhine-Westphalia.
