Press Release Regarding the Bomb Attacks Perpetrated in Urumqi on 22 May 2014

We are deeply saddened by the latest terrorist attack perpetrated today (22 May) in Urumqi, the administrative center of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China, resulting in the death of 31 people and the injury of more than 90 others according to initial reports.

We convey our condolences and wish fortitude to the people of China and to the families of those who lost their lives and hope for a speedy recovery of the wounded.

We condemn vigorously this heinous attack and hope that its perpetrators will be arrested and brought to justice as soon as possible.

As Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu emphasized yesterday during in the bilateral meeting with his Chinese counterpart in Shanghai on the occasion of the CICA Summit, we stand against all forms of terrorism whatever its source, motivation or purpose. Terrorism cannot be legitimized under any circumstances. Turkey has always done and will continue to do its part in the international solidarity and fight against terrorism.
